Jocelyn tells us, “Yoga FYI – it’s For Your Improvement. For me, the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar and the Iyengar method are all about exploring yourself, from the periphery to the core, on a physical, emotional, mindful and intellectual level. It is teaching me to balance and align my strengths and weaknesses. It is a holistic approach to wellbeing and joy. I believe the Iyengar method allows anyone to plant seeds of happiness in themselves and others.”
Directed towards unifying the body, breath, senses, mind and intelligence with the self, Iyengar Yoga is not only a potent means of stress relief, but encourages the all-round well being of the student.
A feature of Iyengar Yoga is the props used, such as blocks, belts and bolsters. These assist the student with correct alignment and support, thereby enabling the student to practice optimally at his own level with the most minimal risk of injury.
The hallmarks of Iyengar Yoga are precision, alignment and a sustained focus on the body’s feedback during practice; all of which induce a state of calm and a growth of self awareness.
Iyengar Yoga has in the last few decades been adopted by thousands of yoga practitioners worldwide. There are qualified teachers in Asia, Australia, Across Canada, Africa, Europe, New Zealand, Southern Africa, United Kingdom and USA, allowing students to continue their practice regardless of their location.
